Writing a marketing audio script can get frustrating without an outline and an understanding of what an effective audio script should be. I know, I know, you’ll just Google it, right? It is important to remember that you are writing something that is meant to be heard.

Do I have a “writing process”?
Everyone has their own thoughts, ideas and opinions which develop a unique writing style that defines their personality, but without a writing process it can be extremely difficult to begin writing any type of script. Who is my audience?
Understanding your audience is one of the most important steps in creating an audio script. In this stage, take the time to study your audience, the people that will actually be listening to your script. Take into consideration the behavior and the mood of the listener.
For example, if you are creating a script for message on hold, the audio content that plays to callers on hold or in queue, it is important to capture the attention of the listener so they remain engaged while waiting for a live attendant. It is good to know information like:
This information concludes that the caller (your audience) is probably impatient or not in the best mood and you should tailor your audio script around it.
Am I using the proper pronunciation?
Your audio script is probably going to be read by a professional voice talent so it is essential that you define the pronunciation of certain words to account for accents and dialects or to define the pronunciation of certain last names.
One example is words like “produce” which can mean “the act of making an object or idea” or “fruits and vegetables”. Clarifying those types of words and specifying accents can save you time and often money in revisions when done during the scripting stage.
