Updating Your Messages On Hold for Autumn (and after)

SMessage On Hold Services for October, Autumn, and the Holiday Seasonummer officially ended on September 23, but people have started feeling especially autumnal since Labor Day. As the seasons change, it’s time to take inventory of your marketing materials and make sure your Message On Hold reflects the present and future of your business, not the past. Depending on your industry, your on hold marketing might include some of the following content:

  • Hospitality properties often:
    • Advertise Oktoberfest , Halloween, and other seasonal celebrations
    • Remind callers of space rental opportunities for parties
    • Start promoting Thanksgiving and other holiday offers
    • Inform callers of holiday room rates
  • Messages on Hold for Restaurants: 
    • Publicize seasonal menu changes
    • Promote special, seasonal events
    • Highlight private rooms for large parties
  • Retail stores:
    • Feature upcoming sales
    • Announce special holiday hours from Columbus Day through New Year’s

Businesses in general can grow community outreach by promoting  month-long observances. For example, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Arts and Humanities Month.  Autumnal on hold marketing has two keys. First, think about what changes for your business at the end of summer, and include these things in your Message On Hold. Second, start developing MOH content centered on your holiday season promotions. By including both of these content areas, your program will be up to date and can help you plan for your business’s future.
