Unexpected Ways Audio Can Help Improve Social Media Promotion

If you're trying to grow your social media presence, you might feel like you're fighting an uphill battle. How are you attracting people to your profiles? What are you offering on social sites that makes you look unique? 

You've probably already learned that just because you've build a social media profile, it doesn't mean that people have started following you. Social media follows aren't acquired just because you're there; people will follow you because you're interesting, informative and because you tell them to.

How do you promote social media accounts?

Most commonly, social media is promoted online. You expect to see social media accounts cross promoted: A Facebook profile will say, "Follow Me on Twitter!" and a tweet might read, "Like us on Facebook for 10% off your next order." 

But social media presence  can be promoted offline, too.  Adding a call to action to the following areas can help boost your online following: 

  • Websites: Okay, websites are online, not off. But a shocking number of people don't use their website to promote their social media accounts. Instead, they see the two as separate entities. To incorporate your social media profiles on your website, 
    • You can include follow buttons on your site that direct people to your accounts, but a more direct approach is also warranted. 
    • Create a banner that reads, "For the latest product updates and special deals, LIKE our Facebook Page--Click Here." 
    • Add a website audio greeting that literally speaks to online visitors. Try having a professional voice over talent read, "Welcome to Our Company! Please Follows @OurCompany on Twitter for the latest news!"
    • Incorporating your social media presence prominently on your website gives visitors the opportunity to connect with you even when they're not on your website.
  • Message On Hold: Callers on hold are just as likely to follow you on social media as website visitors. Make sure you include your social media presence in the script for your on hold marketing. If a caller hears it while waiting on hold, they might even go to your Facebook page at that moment or send you a tweet letting you know they like your hold music! 
  • Voicemail Greetings: If I need to speak to you badly enough that I'm leaving you a voicemail, I might even want an alternative way to contact you.
    • Often, people will include their email address in their outgoing message, but it's also a good idea to add a simple social media account--like a twitter handle. 
    • For example, your voicemail greeting might say, "Hi, this is Juli. Unfortunately, I can't take your call right now. If you leave me your name and telephone number, I'll call you back by tomorrow. If you want to reach me right away, try tweeting @JuliD."

Online or off, take extra time to call clients and prospects to action by promoting your social media accounts. It might be unexpected, but it's a great way to improve your following.
