BreastCancerAwareness

National Breast Cancer Month On Hold Script

"Help make a difference for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October by spreading the word about steps women can take to detect breast cancer early.  Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women.  The good news is that most women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early.

  • Health professionals: be sure to speak to women about the importance of getting screened for breast cancer.

  • Women - ages 40 to 49 without a family history of breast cancer, should ask their doctors about when to start getting mammograms – the screening test for breast cancer can help find breast cancer early when it’s easier to treat.

Organize or take part in a Breast Cancer Awareness event in your community.  For more ideas as to how to get involved, visit https://healthfinder.gov/NHO/OctoberToolkit.aspx."

HealthLiteracyAwareness

Health Literacy Month On Hold Script

"Since 1999, October has been Health Literacy Month. Health Literacy Month is a time for organizations and individuals to Find the Right Words for Better Health.  There is often a gap that exists between the way health care issues are communicated and the ability of most people to understand them.  When people struggle with understanding how to prevent and manage health conditions, they are more likely to skip necessary medical tests, have a harder time with their medical condition, and visit the emergency room more often. Patients also tend to make mistakes with their medications, and fail to understand nutrition labels.  To request a PDF of the Health Literacy Month handbook – a guidebook designed to help you create, plan, run, and evaluate Health Literacy Month events, visit http://www.healthliteracymonth.org

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Month On Hold Script

"The National Institute of Child Health & Human Development (NICHD) has been conducting and supporting research to understand SIDS since 1974 and they ask you to partake in the cause this & every October – SIDS Awareness Month.  SIDS is the sudden, unexplained death of an infant younger than one year of age and is the leading cause of death in children between one month and one year of age.  Although the cause is unknown, it appears that SIDS might be associated with defects in the portion of an infant's brain that controls breathing and arousal from sleep.  Researchers have discovered some factors that might put babies at extra risk and perhaps the most important is placing your baby on his or her back to sleep.  The NICHD will continue its comprehensive efforts to understand SIDS and eliminate it as a cause of infant death.   Become involved.  Visit https://www.nichd.nih.gov/news/resources/spotlight/Pages/102110-SIDS-awareness-month.aspx."
